Different Bikes is pleased to support Matt Brown and the Seeing Beyond campaign, which is aimed at raising funds and awareness for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). In August 2009, Matt will join 2000 other athletes on the starting line of the Ironman Canada Triathlon.
What makes Matt’s attempt different is that he is legally blind.
While Matt has developed adaptive strategies for coping with low vision, on the road to Ironman, his limited vision will require him to constantly focus on elements that a fully sighted athlete would not have to think about. As a young child, CNIB helped Matt build the skills, confidence, and self esteem needed to excel in the face of challenge. Matt’s unique journey presents an opportunity for him to give back to CNIB – an organization that has helped him and thousands of others ‘See Beyond’ the challenges of living with low or no vision.
