Gran Fondo.. weather???
Sep 06.10 Posted in category: Travel
So yours truly is doing the Gran Fondo.. lots of sceptics in the crowd but I think I am ready for it. As someone said "nobody said that you have to do it fast" and that is exactly correct. Now don't get me wrong, I did do some training for this event but most of it was done over the past 3 weeks and a bit while on holidays. When most training manuals say that you need to taper off your rides, I am kinda still trying to get some miles in the saddle.
Part of this rigorous training schedule was riding to work this morning in the pooring rain and it made me realize that if I am going to be on the bike for 6+ hours I am going to get very cold and wet if I don't prepare myself properly I am not going to enjoy it to the fullest.
Now, not trying to be a pessimist but chances are that it will be raining at least part of the way. I am sure that most "roadies" will refuse to ride with fenders but then they may not have heard of the ROADRACER MK2

These fenders are only 180 grams, easy to install and a must for fall/winter riding. Here are some other recommendations for a comfortable ride:
Gloves: Sugoi Firewall GT full fingered gloves. They will not keep your hands dry but also warm.
Jacket: Sugoi Hydrolite Jacket. This Jacket is super light, foldable and it will keep you dry.
Booties: Sugoi resistor booties
Arm and Leg warmers.
So come by this week, let us make sure you are well prepared for the race and we can compare notes afterwards. Also, if your bike needs some tweeking before the race pop by and we'll make sure your bike is good to go.

Back to school, back to work, back on the bike?

So summer is coming to an end but that doesn't mean that you need to put your bike away for the next 9 months and forget about biking. Au contraire.. what better time to start commuting to work and school and take advantage of our mild climate and ever improving biking infrastructure.
At Different Bikes Vancouver we still have a great selection of bikes to suit your needs. The best part of buying a bike at this time is that we are motivated to move the bikes and get you a great deal. We could list all the bikes that are on sale but basically that would mean every bike we have in the store. In addition to all the great pricing on the bikes we also will give you 20% discount on any accessories that you buy with the bike and ofcourse don't forget about our "lifetime service" that comes with every bike we sell.
So come down to Different Bikes Vancouver at 1421 West Broadway, tell them that you read this blog and we will even throw in a water bottle and cage to boot.
See you at the store...
